About

A trusted advisor for the outdoor rooms of the home.

The Gardiner Edit was founded on the belief that the most beautiful outdoor spaces are not built — they are edited into being, one considered decision at a time.

Her Story

A lifelong study of how gardens shape a life.

Alana's design sensibility was formed far from a drafting table — in the walled gardens of the Cotswolds, the cypress allées of Tuscan villas, the bougainvillea-draped terraces of Mallorca, and the soft, mossy lanes of the Irish countryside.

Returning home to New England, she found a region whose architectural grace — shingle-style cottages, stone farmhouses, coastal capes — was perfectly suited to the layered, romantic planting traditions of Europe. The Gardiner Edit was founded to bridge the two.

Today, Alana advises homeowners across Arlington, Winchester, Lexington, Concord, Wellesley, and the coastal North Shore. She works alongside a carefully chosen circle of masons, stone yards, nurserymen, and builders — relationships built over years — to shepherd projects from earliest concept through final placement.

She does not install or maintain. She designs, sources, coordinates, and counsels — quietly removing the friction between vision and execution.

What Guides the Work

Considered. Quiet. Built to last decades, not seasons.

  • Timelessness over trend — design that ages into a place.
  • Material honesty — natural stone, weathered metal, real wood, true plants.
  • Architectural deference — the landscape should belong to the house.
  • European softness — layered borders, romantic geometry, lived-in elegance.
  • Execution discipline — the right contractor, the right week, the right stone.
